Calligraphy-Inspired Architecture
Shaped in a ribbon-like form, this proposal for the new Linkong SOHO building is favorably located within the Great Hongqiao Business Zone in China. The retail and business complex is the second building designed by Zaha Hadid for the largest property developers in Shanghai, SOHO China.
Defined by its calligraphic gesture and distinctive metallic envelope, the mixed-use building features four twisting and elongated
volumes, each representing a distinct cluster of activities. Intimate courtyards sit in the negative space between the intersecting wings, and together with the green roof, integrate nature into the dense urban environment.
The Great Hongqiao Business Zone enjoys access to the Transportation Hub’s high speed rail, subway, and airport transportation systems, and benefits from the nearby airport’s attraction for global and local enterprises wishing to settle down in the region.
